Zii Energy has announced that its surface energy charging technology will be available in several 2017 vehicles, introducing the technology to tens of thousands of new consumers.
Surface energy allows vehicle owners to power their electronic devices without cords or ports by simply placing a device on a pad. It enables an efficient and unlimited electrical charging from anywhere on the power surface at the same rate as if the device was plugged in. Here are some of the features that will be beneficial to homeowners:
- Free positioning: Devices can be charged anywhere on a pad at any orientation.
- High power: Can power devices up to 160 Watts.
- Power diverse: low and high power devices can be charged side-by-side.
- High efficiency: The technology can be made nearly 100% efficient.
- Low cost: Implementation of the technology is inexpensive.
- Ultimate safety: Does not employ electromagnetic fields.
Although the first iteration of the technology will be found in vehicles, Zii plans to offer it as a solution for the home in the spring of 2017.
Surface energy charging will be available in the following 2017 models:
- F-150 (with flow-through center console) 2009-2016
- Super Duty (with flow-through center console) 2011-2016
- Edge 2010-2014
- Fusion 2013-2016
- Lincoln MkC 2015-2016
- Dodge Dart 2012-2016 (limited space fits only iPhone 4S)
- Dodge Durango 2015-2016
- Dodge Jouney 2015-2016
- Dodge R/T Caravan 2015-2016
- Dodge Challenger 2015-2016
- Dodge Charger 2015-2016
- Chrysler Town & Country 2015-2016
- RAM Truck 2015-2016

“Surface energy continues to win new vehicle design-ins because automotive companies understand that what has been known as ‘wireless charging’ is too limited and does not support a complete ecosystem,” says Gregg Clark, president of Zii Energy. “We are working with major brands to bring surface energy to many popular devices to expand the ecosystem of compatible consumer electronics devices. By next spring surface energy will be in homes, offices and other environments.”
“Surface energy is the much needed alternative to ‘wireless charging’ solutions, which has come to mean a disappointing user experience,” adds Mitch Randall, Zii Energy CEO. “Traditional wireless charging only works for phones, it charges slowly, it gets hot, it can only charge one item at a time, and it requires exact alignment.”
